Who was Vidura?

Vidura was the half-brother of Dhritarashtra and Pandu, the sons of King Vichitravirya. He was born from a maid-servant of Vichitravirya, who was impregnated by the sage Vyasa. Vidura was thus born with the qualities of a sage and was endowed with great intelligence, knowledge, and righteousness. He was also well-versed in the Vedas, the scriptures, and the art of politics.

Vidura served as the prime minister and chief advisor of Dhritarashtra, who was blind from birth and ruled the kingdom of Hastinapura. Vidura was loyal and faithful to Dhritarashtra, but he was also impartial and honest. He always spoke the truth and gave wise counsel to the king. He tried to prevent the war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, who were cousins and rivals for the throne. He also warned Dhritarashtra about the evil deeds and intentions of his son Duryodhana, who was the leader of the Kauravas.

Vidura was respected and admired by both sides of the conflict. He was a friend and mentor to Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pandavas and the rightful heir to the throne. He also had a close relationship with Krishna, who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and a cousin of both the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Vidura was one of the few people who recognized Krishna's divinity and followed his teachings.

Vidura left Hastinapura after he was insulted by Duryodhana for speaking against his wicked plans. He went to live in a forest with his half-brother Pandu's widow Kunti and her five sons, the Pandavas. He later returned to Hastinapura after the war was over and helped Yudhishthira to rule the kingdom. He eventually renounced his worldly life and went to the Himalayas to attain liberation.

What is Vidura Neethi?

Vidura Neethi is a part of the Udyoga Parva (the Book of Effort) in the Mahabharata. It consists of 33 chapters and 545 verses. It is a dialogue between Vidura and Dhritarashtra that takes place on the eve of the Kurukshetra war. Vidura tries to persuade Dhritarashtra to avoid the war by giving up his attachment to his son Duryodhana and by giving justice to his nephews, the Pandavas.

Vidura Neethi is not just a political advice but also a spiritual discourse. Vidura teaches Dhritarashtra about the principles of dharma (righteousness), karma (action), moksha (liberation), and bhakti (devotion). He also explains 0efd9a6b88
